Worker green tree or weaver ants (Oecophylla smaragdina)

Worker green tree ants (Oecophylla smaragdina) bringing together leaves to build their arboreal nest. The species is infamous for their burning bites which result from formic acid sprayed into the wounds formed by their powerful mandibles. Despite this somewhat ferocious nature, they have a vital symbiotic relationship with a number of butterfly species who's larvae they nurture.
